Find cures and kinder treatments for young people facing cancer.

Many children’s cancers are biologically very different from adult cancers, so finding better treatments and setting up clinical trials needs a different approach.

Science has made great progress in tackling children’s cancers over the last 40 years, but survival rates across different types of cancers vary and for some children’s cancers survival rates are still far too low.

Treatment can have very debilitating side-effects for young people that can sadly last long into adult life, so finding kinder treatments is vital.

SomeOne created the new strategic visual identity for the brand using a radically younger visual language.

Cancer Research UK’s work into leukaemia has helped save thousands of children.  For example, they supported a trial that showed a new treatment called mitoxantrone could increase survival by more than 50% for children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia whose cancer had come back.

Cancer Research UK were involved in a trial that led to a dramatic improvement in survival for a type of children’s liver cancer called hepatoblastoma. Now 8 out of 10 children survive, compared to 2 out of 10 children in the 1970s.

Cancer Research UK helped to fund ground-breaking research that changed the way that children are treated for Wilms’ tumour – a type of kidney cancer, meaning they are now less likely to experience the long-term impact of side effects including heart problems and kidney damage.

We’ve created an entirely new operating system to surround and support the activity. A bespoke typeface, hundreds of ‘doodles’ created by us and by kids & teens, framing options plus a new core symbol and architecture.

We worked with the Cancer Research UK team and photographer Simon Warren to create an extensive suite of 100’s of photographic assets for the brand with real kids and their real stories.

It’s been an amazing project to be involved in. Get involved here.
